Briefing Packet for MI-5 (SAB branch) Bohemian Rhapsody Teams

Mission Name: Bohemian Rhapsody
Background

Our plane of existence has an 'immune system' to protect itself from potentially hostile visitors from other planes. Exorcism is our most obvious defense, however the rules that tend to restrain summoned extra-planars are an example of some of the more subtle alternate means of control.

Even so the balance is not perfect, and when the fabric of our reality is particularly stressed, a champion is chosen and imbued with great powers to restore the balance. According to an assortment of reputable diviners, the next such champion will be empowered in London within five hours.

History has taught us that until this champion learns to control her (and it is a her the majority of the time) power, she'll act as a beacon instinctually recognizable by any extra-planar within a thousand kilometers or more. Thankfully, the vast majority of extra-planars are not sufficiently pernicious, otherwise occupied, or too cowardly to answer the beacon's call. Unfortunately this still leaves a sizable threat, made up of some of the worst of the worst, eager to kill this new champion before she has a chance to receive training.

The British Government, in cooperation with the EU, several other nations, and a variety of religious denomination has deployed its forces to stop as many extra-planars as possible before they can arrive in the country, be it by conventional or unconventional means. Both teams's adversaries will be those forces that manage to slip through or were already hiding within Britain.

Briefing Start Time: 1000 GMT: August 17, 2020.

Team Briefings:

Team Name: Welcoming Party
Team Type: Counter-Assassination; Pursuit; Retrieval.
Operational Details:

The 'Welcoming Party' team will be gathered at a spot chosen by consultation with diviners and logistical planners. Upon the manifestation of the champions powers, they will move to intercept her, and fight off any extra-planars who seek to capture or more likely kill her.

Unfortunately the diviners have not given us sufficient information to evacuate civilians from the potentially effected areas, however we have increased the police presence in that section of London and will quickly move to shut down roads and quickly move people out of the area. Even so, caution and restraint are absolutely required for successfully completing this mission.

This is by no means a free-fire zone. Civilians will be common, and may be behind walls or around corners so extra caution with explosives is required. The team has authority to deem whether any contacts are hostile without verifying these decisions by SAB headquarters. In addition, the team is fully authorized to use lethal force against any resisting hostile. However, your objective is not the elimination of threats, but the safe-guarding of targets, not let zeal for battle or the kill distract you from your core objective.

With any luck, the subject will voluntarily accompany the team to any one of a number of safe houses spread throughout London. Should the subject be unwilling to accompany the team, use of non-lethal force is authorized. Obviously such use should be kept to the minimum possible. Be conservative in any actions taken against the champion, whether she knows it or not, she'll need your help to stay alive, but she will be easy to track, and you can wait until you have a safe means of bringing her in.

Opposition Force:

The nature of the opposition force, aside from being extra-planars, is unknown. It is even possible that some forces from our plane, be they coerced, mind controlled, or simply hired by extra-planars.

There may also be other forces interested in recruiting or studying the champion. If such forces are encountered, consult with headquarters, but you should operate under the presumption that they may not have the best interest of our plane, let alone her, at heart.

Additional Resources: Reinforcements may be available, but should not be relied upon. We will support your objective with all of our forces, but unless you are urgently in need, you should assume that any forces you'd call for are likely performing another important function else where and would have to be recalled from that goal to assist you.

Welcoming Party structure:

Primary Objective: 100,000 pounds: Bring champion safely to a sanctuary.
Welfare of Champion : 20,000 pounds: Champion is largely unharmed.
40,000 pounds: Voluntary recruitment of champion.
Elimination of opposition force: 20,000 pounds: For each attacker incapacitated (Maximum 60,000)
Restraint:

Moderate penalties: Reckless disregard for teammates.
Moderate penalties: Significant collateral damage to structures.
Major penalties: Reckless disregard for innocents.

Team Name: Bug Zapper
Team Type: Counter-Assassination
Operational Details:

A sprite using an admitted alias of 'Eris' has volunteered her services as a decoy for the new champion. She and the Bug Zapper team will be waiting in an evacuated warehouse district until the champion begins to manifest her power. At this point 'Eris' will magically create a more powerful beacon in an attempt to mislead and draw in any malevolent extra-planars. 'Eris' has shown sufficient self-defense ability for SAB command to feel comfortable using her, however she'll be exerting most of her power to act as a beacon and thus will be of little assistance in combat.

The 'Bug Zapper' team has the option of going underground to older subway and sewer tunnels, however they should stay above ground long enough to allow the opposition forces to spot the signal.

This is not a free-fire zone. It is possible that someone a civilian avoided evacuation or a particularly ignorant extra-planar may be drawn in without realizing the exact nature of the beacon. However, the team has authority to deem whether any contacts are hostile without verifying these decisions by SAB headquarters. In addition, the team is fully authorized to use lethal force against any resisting hostile.

Saki Morikawa has had an opportunity to review the battle ground and has authority to act as team leader. We strongly recommend maintaining team cohesion, given the potential strength, tenacity, range of powers, and intelligence of the forces arrayed against you.

Additional Resources: Reinforcements will not be available until the champion is secured. Even then, they will likely be at least several minutes in coming. If the team is overwhelmed, we recommend turning off the beacon and making a tactical retreat to the nearest available sanctuary against extra-planars. Available sanctuaries will be marked on Saki Morikawa's mission map and will be available via radio contact.

Bug Zapper Team Reward structure:

Elimination of opposition force: 20,000-50,000 pounds: For each hostile killed. Note, swarm or teams of weak extra-planars may be classified as a single target.
Restraint:Moderate penalties: Reckless disregard for teammates.
Major penalties: Reckless disregard for innocents.
Major penalties: Large-scale structural damage to warehouses more than one block from start point. Large-scale structural damage to tunnels.
