The original lycan bacteria apparently had classic limited contagion traits for a blood-borne bacteria namely that the bacteria can be transferred by blood transfusion or sexual intercourse. The bacteria apparently mutated when the carrier caught a fairly rapidly spreading flu-like bacteria that has is still be contained by World Health Organization and national governments.

The mutated lycan bacteria is contagious through the original vectors of fluid transfer and can also be spread by bite or a scratch that draws blood. Information gained by consultation with the Indonesian government after the infected subjects converted to lycan form at moonrise support these field results. The Indonesians also tell us the bacteria can also be spread by touch as well, however fortunately has a lifespan of less than a minute aside from the interior of the body or the skin of an infected subject in Lycan form.

As a result the recommended precautions are use of gloves, masks, and body armour by any units encountering these lycans. Any agent receiving an open wound from a lycan attack must be treated as if he or she is infected. Any other wound received in the field from non-Lycan sources should be treated immediately as they would vulnerable to infection.

Finally our research personnel have verified that those who already are lycans, even ones who keep it suppressed via treatments, are immune to this particular bacteria.

Our apparent patient 0 is Sally Jennings, an Englishwoman in her early twenties. She arrived on the island before the last moon rise, apparently for tourist reasons. While on the island she caught a highly infectious bacteria that apparently mutated the lycan bacteria she was already carrying. According to secondhand reports she was aware of that bacteria and believed apparently believed it could only be spread via sexual contact or a ‘sharing of blood ritual.' The translator's opinion is that given the second hand source the ‘sharing of blood ritual' refers to transfusion. Although agent Ben Carmichael does note that it could refer to religious/cultural rituals of a lycans. We do not know how Sally Jennings source on this information.

She escaped into the woods the last night of the full moon and was not seen again at the temple ruins. This would explain the local shaman's apparent belief that the epidemic had indeed stopped with her. Our translator slightly contradicted Agent Tim Shimeru's report adding it was her interpretation that the men acted strangely but had not transformed by moon rise.

The contagion spread rapidly with the first rise of the new moon yesterday, on September 2. Sally Jennings credit cards were used in England in recent hours, a local dragnet including use of surveillance camera footage of the shops in which the card was used tracked the source to a sailor and a female accomplice. The two are appear to be uninfected but are being held, as are the crew of his ship, pending moonrise as a safety precaution. The sailor said that she had given him the cards in exchange for no questions asked transport on a freighter bound for England . Yesterday night, the night of the first full moon, she apparently disappeared off the freighter by jumping overboard. While the swim would likely have been beyond the capacity of an ordinary human, it would be well within the powers of a lycan who was becoming familiar with her powers.

We currently have a nationwide dragnet for Sally Jennings or any reports of lycan activity. We are also currently hunting down friends and relations. Unfortunately she dropped out of contact with her family after college and we have found at best vague reports as to how she's spent the past year. We've figured out the range of locations she could have made shore fall in Great Britain and have instituted roadblocks and train sweeps in that region. While we can not know for sure whether these precautions limited her movements, we are placing most of our assets on the assumption that she is with 100 km of her possible landfall locations.

Mutated lycans appear to be natural quadrupeds, but are about halfway in size between a wolf and a brown bear. Coloration is variable, but primarily black fur. They have several inch claws and teeth quite suitable for tearing into flesh and holding on. From their musculature, you'd think they have strength closer to that of a bear. They are lunar based, though extreme injury may suppress transformation to and from lycan form.   The derived gas had effects similar to that of use of chemical weapons against ordinary humans. Unprocessed wolfbane caused an apparently painful rash upon contact. Silver is confirmed as an irritant on surface contact and reinforces kill shots, but the general effects of its introduction into the body are unknown.

Reports from the Indonesian army are mixed and largely unusable. However, we do feel we can safely say that conventional arms fire was at best quickly healed and at worst simply ignored.

Apparently the wolves began biting and scratching those at the ruins site but were able to restrain themselves from killing or attacking the elderly or children. We are uncertain whether this peculiar behavior can be attributed to the infected men, as the shaman did, the shaman's power itself, or some new twist in werewolf behavior.

We have no other reports as to the lycan's intelligence and teamwork. However, there have been no known instances of lycanthropy where the immediately turned have a degree of control much higher than instinctual. The period need to gain control varies, but at the earliest tends to begin with the second transformation. In fact in some cases control is only gained to a marginal degree. Intervention by older werewolves or magic has been known to provide exceptions to this rule.
