[Date: August 26. Time: 1000 GMT] (...I unconscsiously dressed the part. I'm wearing a gray t- shirt and jeans. Maybe I should go get my windbreaker. ;p) [Ari's been handling some computer crime issues since Bohemian Rhapsody, she's finished those up nicely and now she has some free time.] (/me snerks) (Maybe) [So, she's in the SAB computer facilities she calls her own. What does she want to do?] [Start] (Does anybody else come into the facilites, or is this all Ari's?) (We'll say she's got a fairly small dedicated room, that people would knock on the door to enter. Different room than the PK computer was placecd in, though she can move it here if you want.) (I think she keeps that separate just to be extra safe.) (I'd also imagine she's very careful with the stuff she works on in here, and takes precautions to avoid it being traced back to her, etc. etc.) (Righto, so describe it as you would. Right.) * Ari is in AriSpace, her own little computer room. It's got a couple of servers as well as a few desktop machines (that have probably been upgraded far beyond their original capabilities). A reasonably large screen takes up part of one wall. It's fairly dark, and the only sound is the whirring of fans. A normal person would probably be driven nuts after a while. Luckily, Ari is not a normal person. (Yup!) * Ari is seated in front of the screen, keyboard in her lap, finishing up the last of her assignments. She's quite efficient, and with a few keystrokes, sends the last of the data back to the appropriate SAB staff member. And that is done. * Ari has gotten into the habit of talking to herself, since she's frequently alone. She probably doesn't even realize that she does it. * Ari checks her task list. "Hmm. Nothing else for the moment? Very well. I suppose now I can do that research I've been considering." * Grysar talks to the room, and the room doesn't listen to her. Accept for any voice recognition systems she's set up. (Oops, that was supposed to be in brackets. :P) (Try again? ;p) [Ari talks to the room, and the room doesn't listen to her. Except for any voice recognition systems she's set up.] * Ari hasn't said anything her voice recognition systems would accept as a command. * Ari taps her chin with a finger. "The best place to start, perhaps, would be to examine their most recent works." * Ari opens a connection to the outside internet and begins a search for the most recent written works of Jonathon Marlyne and Kendrick Wickham. [Ari finds a variety of articles by Jonathon Marlyne written for the newspaper Deadly Sun....] [His books include "Ghosts of Time" (A book about a generation of ghosts and their journey for redemption), "Fading Away" (probably his best seller about an invisibility formula gone wrong. May be based on a true story), and "Drifting Passages" (about a human-looking alien's journey to earth from a poverty stricken world and the hardships he encountered along the way).] [Kendrick's stuff doesn't come up just yet. There are also a few specific newspaper articles by Marlyne that were preSAB.] * Ari calls up Jonathon's five most recent Deadly Sun articles and the latest of his pre-SAB ones. She starts reading. (Can we assume she's a speed-reader? ^_~) (Certainly) [He's written rather accurate accounts of the missions he's been on. They do in fact respect the privacy of the agents though and don't give away too many details on the organization itself.] * Ari checks to see what he's written about her. [There's a reference to SAB employing agents particularly adept at handling even elaborate eletrical and computer based defenses. No specifics though.] [One item of note: he didn't publish an article about the Vampire Vacation Violence until after the Ambulance Chasing mission was completed.] Hmm. Playing it safe, or simply being very thorough? Interesting. * Ari finishes the articles and looks for the older one. [While searching, she also notices that lately he's also done a few more society/business articles, plugging some recent project, and an upcoming charity fundraiser being held by rumored vampire Derk Johnson] * Ari calls up the "recent project" articles as well. [The recent project is a series of anti-curses, apparently in the magical/voodoo/general spellcasting worls it is important to upgrade regularly and there have been some nasty ones turning up of late.] [Isn't actually that interesting, and that's mostly cause Jonathon can write well.] * Ari hmms. "A bit like computer viruses, I suppose." [Older famous articles: "Vampire's Kiss" Nicholess Campell a vampiric French lord, was apparently behind a drug of the name "Vampire's Kiss", he got staked as part of the investigation, although Jonathon didn't report who did that.] [Later article "My interview with an Etheral" ghost of Antoine de Saint-Exupery was interviewed and put to ease by the investigation which ended a string of hauntings.] * Leena has joined #sab2020 * Leena is now known as Jex Out! (Scram Jex. :P) (Sorry, but this is a sekrit mini. ^^;) ( Drat. ) * Jex has left #sab2020 [Some on alien abductions, witches and warlocks, and lycanthropes. Nothing particularly of note.] (Hmm, give me a mind roll. I'll say writing (newspaper). +2 penalty) [Right when she was about to finish up, Ari notices one retraction related to Jonathon's first articles for the Deadly Sun. One on a voodoo which doctor. Apparently there were some overstatements in the article.] * Ari decides to take a closer look at this. [The article was specifically about Ehioze Diallo. Witchdoctor of some note and standing.] (Give me an occult (vodoo) roll) [It seems like the initial article (particularly the retracted parts) were the sort of thing a particularly imaginative tabloid writer would make up about a witchdoctor. Some of the non-retracted bits seem like the details that an expert would actually know.] [Oh, and it was an interview/profile. Not a research piece.] (Hmm.. another occult roll +4 for details on Ehioze not contained in the artile) (article) [You find some passing references to him, he apparently does he isn't known for his sense of humor.] (Did you forget something, or just switch thoughts mid- sentence? ;p) (^_^;) [You find some passing references to him, apparently he isn't known for his sense of humor.] * Ari ponders this for a second, then enters his name and starts searching for a bit more information on him, aside from his lack of a sense of humor. (Let's see. +4 urban tracking roll.) [Nothing new.] * Ari shrugs and files his name away for future reference. She then looks to see what else of Jonathon's works look interesting. [As she searches around, she does note a positive reference on a possibly real, possible poser, vampire site saying that the coverage of his SAB vampire work has taken extra effort to be balanced.] [But not much else is standing out.] [Oh, and there isn't coverage of the attempted breakout by the telekinetics.] (Would she know about him visiting them afterwards?) Session Time: Mon Apr 12 00:00:00 2004 (hmm.. give me a computers (networking) roll on that) [Yeah, she gets the report on the telekinetics and the prison records. They're somewhat secure, but not protected against her.] * Ari reads. She gets a small smile. "Discreet. Very good of you. I shall keep this in mind. Perhaps I'll be more willing to answer certain questions in the future..." [Oh, and she'd probably notice now, if she hadn't already, that the Dossiers note that the telekinetics are currently paroled, after making an agreement with government and having the 1.3 million in damages paid.] * Ari gives the articles one last lookover, and downloads the books for later reading. (Legitimate e-book copies, thank you very much.) [Ari gains +3 (or maybe more) Ebooks] (Hurrah!) * Ari then checks to see what her search on Kendrick has turned up. (give me a writing (novels) check) [Kendrick is also a writer it seems. Fantasy mostly, although from what Ari's experienced it seems like he may base it off real experiences.] * Ari tries to get more information on this. [Several involve a character with no real powers except the ability to resist the magical things going on around him.] [Also some that have odd things occur around them all the time, but that's pretty par for the course fantasy wise, so..] * Ari checks to see when the most recent one was written. [One in a series involving an anti-hero who uses the ability to telepathic steal information to great effect.] * Ari ponders, then expands her search beyond just his written works. Mentions of him in the news, on police-related sites (public information only at this time) and so on. [Oh, and he is a rather good writer.] (Urban tracking +4) [Some unexplained incidents he was involved in, nothing particularly troubling. SAB actually had tracked him some before he joined up. And, as a last note, apparently his car was given to him.] * Ari is curious about that last one. By whom was it given? (Another urban tracking roll (corporate) +2) [Fairly common name, apparently paid in cash or via a loan taken out before the person went into the dealership.] * Ari shrugs. Then she decides to dig a bit deeper. He did, after all, ask her some fairly uncomfortable questions, and turnabout is fair play. (How's she going about it?) (She's first going back to the general search results and looking them over, seeing if there's anything else that stands out. Sorry. I got distracted by other channel before I could elaborate. ^^;) (No problem. :P) (hmm, networking roll +4) [As you look over the SAB notes on him, you find he works in a chippery outside of London. But on a note of more interest.] (*laughs* He wasn't kidding when he said he had a job at a chippery.) [You find that Eckerd's pulled the write up on him recently, and put in instructions to check more deeply about a possible contact with a telepath on SAB's watch list.] [But even more interestingly, while that report hasn't come in, you find that the request for it was specifically into looking into whether he could be granted a security clearance.] (He the telepath or he Kendrick?) (Kendrick. Telepath is apprently female) * Ari hmms again, and tries to get more information on the telepath. [Before she does that, she notices the document also mentions that Ari's background should be reviewed for the same reason. Apparently you have a clean bill of health, with a side note that were that to occur, she'd definately need to attend a few sessions privacy rights issue and legitimate sources of evidence.] (If I wanted to get a security clearance?) (Yeah, and she can follow up on that if it interests. :P) (And I thought SAB manufactured my background for me. ^_~) (Not that background. :P) (Now I'm confused. ^^;) [They're fairly certain Ari's history is just what she thinks it is and has said (only to them) it is. The security check was one last double check over that, shaking a few more trees, asking a few more informants, that sort of thing.] (I just showed up one day!) (Yup. That's what they find. :P) (It's a pretty easy background check) (Seriously, though, Ari herself would love to know more about where she came from. ^_~) (::nod:: That info isn't here though.) (Didn't think so. After all, part of Ari's deal with SAB is that any information they might have about others like her, they'll share. Or she thinks. ^_~) (Right. ^_~) * Ari files that away for possible further investigation. Security clearance might be good to have. Now, about that telepath... (networking roll. +4) [There are still a few cut out portions and referenced files that are apparently not on the servers she can access, but...] (The warded servers?) (Apparently. Or on some other orgs servers) [SAB records have some notation about the activities of an apparently freelance telepath, starting back in the 90s] ( Wards on servers. Who would do such a thing? ^_^_v) [The early reports just noted that field agents occassionally reported a telepath that seemed to take interest in warded minds, they were well enough trained to be able to protect themselves, but there were efforts to see if she was raising havoc with information she shouldn't have.] [Apparently the telepaths activities were at least fairly benign, and cautious, the Kendrick related information noted that she likely provided the car after contacting him briefly, as a sort of apology. It was suspected that this sort of personality may also have helped her lay low, as she didn't anger some knowing victims.] [Disappeared about a decade ago after making contact with [blocked out name] who according to the report not surprisngly was able to trace back the intruder.] (That all the info?) [The telepath apparently freaked and forcefully put up her own shields, and [blocked out name] judged that without good reason, she wasn't willing to try to break through the defenses.] [No real reports since. Not unclassified ones.] [That's it.] (Okay. Didn't want to interrupt exposition. ^_~) (Aww... ^_^) * Ari decides that she's done enough investigation for the moment. She closes these files and most of her connections, though she does download a bunch of Kendrick's novels in e-book format. (Unless he's old-fashioned and only does dead tree versions, in which case she places an order through Amazon.co.uk, or whatever the best equivalent is.) [She can get e-book.] * Ari gets e-books! (So, finish?) (Can I go check on the PK computer real quick?) (Sure) (Just didn't know if enough investigations meant done. :P) * Ari waits for her downloads to finish, then closes that connection and heads out to check on the PK computer, closing (and locking, or at least securing), the door behind her. (It means I'm almost finished.) [Ari noticed Victor off in a corner doing some research when she enters, he gives her a half wave without really looking over.] * Ari nods to him (he probably doesn't notice) and walks over to the computer. [The PK computer looks about the same as before, although there is a new line of text on the screen above the cursor.] * Ari reads it! *Conversation database updated* [With a blinking cursor on the next line.] (Wait, I should have made you make a linguistics check with a -16 bonus. :P) (*snerk*) (What's the bonus for? ^_~) (Knowing how to read. :P) (That sounds like a Brett check. ;p) (Anyhow!) * Ari tries to access this conversation database, provided it's the sort of thing she *can* access. [She gets the conversation bot from before. Which she maybe could hack through, if she didn't respect its wishes.] (Okay, that's what I thought it was. And she's polite enough not to.) * Ari sends it a message. "Good morning. Just passing through." Greetings, hope to talk to you soon. But I'm programmed not to get bored, so don't worry about me. * Ari sends again. "I doubted you would be. I'm sure we will have more time in the future." Glad to hear it. (Ari'd probably talk more now, but I'm getting tired. ^^;) (No need to sweatdrop, I am too. ^_~) (Heh.) * Ari heads out, possibly to see who's in the training rooms, or possibly to go do some reading. [End!]
