[So, Ren is now on the bottom floor and he avoided the satchel charge at the base of the elevator shaft.] [Resume] * Ren checks the map again, looking it over for the how many times now? He tucks it away, replacing that with a pistol. And then steps boldly forward into the hallway proper. [The shutter at the bottom of the elevator shaft is up. You can see on the walls at the side of the door that bolts that can come in from the left and right to further secure the door when it is close.] [There's a jacked open security shudder a bit farther down the hallway. There’s the faint trace of a bloodstain underneath and on the bottom of the gate.] [The hallway also offers a left turn, going around the half-closed shutter] * Ren hmms at the bloodstains, then looks back at the open shutter, seeing if there's a way to jury-rig it, with the bolts, to collapse shut with a welll- placed shot to a bolt. ( That's the first secuirty shutter, BTW. ) [Hmm.. architecture or engineering roll.] [+4 attack roll to shoot it out.] [And use something with armor piercing.] ( Not yet. More like a delaying measure in case he has to run. ) ( Check ) * Ren shakes his head, afetr inspecting it. Then continues down the hallway, taking the left that leads to Observation. [The hallway makes another turn and then widens up into a comfortable looking room. There are coaches, chairs, meeting tables and the like. Several broken monitors and the rest have been removed. There are traces of the whirl wind effect, but not too much other damage on that front.] [One wall of the room is a large panel of what used to be highly reinforced glass. The panel was apparently broken robots and auto-turrets were thrown through it. Those turrets and robots have now been stripped of any valuable parts.] [Beyond the remains of the glass is a two story fairly wide gym/training room. The bottom story of the gym is smaller, and only runs 2/3s the width of the top story. As a result, there's an open hallway running along the right side of the gym.] (Heh, oops. apparently there were some returns in the tet.) * Ren checks for any surviving equipment, or traces of what they were observing. [Hmm, electronics (security) roll.] [There's no salvagable equipment and Ren isn't sure what the equipment would have shown.] * Ren then looks at the broken robots, trying to figure out their purpose- specifically, do they or did they have weapons? [There's a mix of robots. There's a few standard security bots but also some that are designed for humanoid shape and not particularly practical for combat. The weapondry he can identify all seems of the non-lethal variety.] [And mechanics (robotics) roll against mind..] [And no extra information.] * Ren frowns, and heads back to the hallway, walking slowly. He heads through the bloodstained security shutter. [Ren emerges into the second story overlook that runs along the gym.] [The gym is occupied by a series of mock-up rooms. They're similar to television sets, although there's no sign of television cameras.] * Ren walks the overlook, slowly and all senses open, to the end, skipping the turn to M1 for the moment. [There's a jail and an office room prominent. Flesh dummies in positions where people would normally sit, and some propped up and in guard uniforms.] [On the outside of each there's a whiteboard with lists of ideas. "Take out grenade pins", "plants can be weapons", "wind can quickly turn stapler and paper weights into useful tools" etc. etc.] (Gah, I need to test these) ( turn off word wrap. ) ( Good call) [There's one doorway off the second floor coordidor. Three off the first floor gym. And a ladder at the end of the second story coordidor.] [So Ren can jump down to the first floor to get to M1 or he can take the ladder.] ( Going straight to the end for the moment, then doubling back and looking at M1. ) (Err.. wait, no I'm wrong. M1 is on this cooridor) (So, retcon that. He does't have to double back.) ( Heading north to the NE corner of the overlook. Then going back and taking the corridor to M1. ) (okay, that works.) ( The ladder is in the NE corner? ) (Yes) ( M1-ho! ) [Ren gets to the far end. From this angle he can see that there's two piles of debris outside the door to the medlab, but otherwise the gym looks about the same.] * Ren peeks donw the ladder, but doesn't go down it. [The ladder seems quite ordinary.] [It has nothing at the base.] * Ren heads to the hallway that leads to M1. [There's am open security shudder, twice the thickness of the normal ones and three times as many bolts. There's a metal rose lying to one side of the hallway, apparetly discarded.] [There's another shudder about halfway down the hallway. In the last section, there's actually a few dents in the wall and some pieces metal lying on the floor. Looks sort of like they were used as manacles.] ( shutter? ) (Yeah) [There's traces of largely cleaned blood on the dents. Looks like someone dumped some cleaner on the manacles, but didn't bother doing a good job of it.] * Ren eyes the rose, and starts humming quietly, to the tune of "Wind beneath my wings." A rueful grin accompanies that, as we walks lightly down the hallway torward the ends of it. ( we=he. ) [This cell (M1) is very spartan and aside from a few items built into the wall, most of it is very soft, cusions, that sort of thing. There's a screen built into the wall, it has a no signal pattern. And there's no desk.] [There actually are toliet and sink facility, (sight check).] ... that'swhat the M is for. Maelstrom, Magnie... and Manic? * Ren snaps his fingers. "Suddenly this makes a lot mroe sense." [Nothing noticed.] * Ren turns on his heel, a bit impatient with curiosity now. He does snag the metal rose, though. * Ren lightly hops down to the gym as soon as he gains the overlook. [The rose looks like it was made out of a broken piece of sheet metal, probably part of some gym equipment. Doesn't seem crafted so much as bent, the strength necessary would be well beyond normal human levels.] [And Ren arrives at the floor of the gym without incident.] * Ren heads for M2. [The middle corridor has a series of turrets and a few broken small security robots. There are a places where turrets are apparently missing at the gym end of the hallway. It appears that there were once security turrets that have now been removed. At the very end, there's a mildly comfortable looking cell with the label M2.] * Ren smirks at the damage to the turrets. "I'm going to ask them what pissed them off enough to finally get out of here." [The cell is fairly simply adorned. There’s a bed, a desk, and a few sheets. There’s a Bonsai tree that looks to have been dead for a few months. There’s a changes of clothes, from which she'd guess this is a male's room, and a few adornments aside from the dead tree. Finally there’s a bathroom. On the whole it looks as if it was designed to be fairly comfortable.] [As you get further in you notice there are gas ducts in the ceiling as well. It doesn't look like the designers tried to hide them at all.] * Ren aims the ligth at the ducts. Big enough for someone to get into? [Nope.] * Ren checks under the bed, in between the matresses, in the desk, the bathroom... the works. [There do appear to be a few potential places to hide papers, but there's nothing there now.] * Ren swishes his tail, and starts teleporting in small hops, back down the hallway and over to M3. [The security shutter is open, down the hallway there's a series of mesh nets, leading to a cell. No turrets.] [The nets are regularly spaced every meter or so down the hallway. There's about a dozen of them.] [At the end of the hallway is a cell labeled M3] [And give me an awareness check.] [Ren hears quiet chatter and hoots from the end of the hallway.] * Ren teleports past each of the nets. He slows down as he hears the noise, but doesn't stop. [Give me an initative roll.] [The cell is actually adorned more lushly than M2, lots of cushions, pictures of the sky and sunsets, mix of books, another desk. Unlike in cell M2, the bed isn't built into the wall, although there's a space for that, instead there's a modular one that's been moved in.] Magnie's. [However, some of the bedding has been ripped and some of the adornments tossed around. This is likely because it is presently occupied by small three collared monkeys. Each about a foot tall. They don't look friendly.] [Ren Monkeys.] [Ren!] ( Ren Ran, not Ren Monkeys. >_> ) ( Heh ) ... and some uninvited guests. * Ren pauses, and retreats. [The monkeys look at one another curiously and then start move out to the hallway. Give me two defense rolls against grabs and one against melee attacks.] [Ren suddenly feels gripped by two forces that endevor to toss him against a wall. Give me a body roll to resist. At the same time one of the hanging curtains smacks him for 6 damage.] [Body roll +4 because there's two of 'em.] [And Ren is turned upside down and smacked against a wall repeatedly. 26 damage.] [And body armour helps on both so 18 total from all three after body armor is accounted for.] [Ren's turn. And he's upside down so +4 to attack rolls. Steady hand helps.] [And give me a biology (zoology roll at your leisure).] * Ren grunts at the impact, then groans. "Bloody tekes!" I guess you'll just have to learn the hard way that your tricks won't work on me. *he takes aim, and fires at the monkey who looks the most intent.* [One monkey is splattered on the floor. This causes the hanging curtains to stop moving.] [The other two howl and keep attacking, give me another two defense rolls.] [Both unarmed against grabs.] [Ren manages to right himself and slithers out of the grip of one of the monkeys, but the other uses his superior intellect, or something, to slam Ren against the ceiling. He takes another 16 damage. 8 after armor. [Ren's turn.] * Ren does the cieling grunt. Again. "So much for taking out the leader..." He takes aim, and fires. Again. [Ren takes out a second monkey entirely removing its head. A part of its body lands on the third monkey, which eeps and flees in terror.] [And out of init. You can fire at retreating monkey if you like.] * Ren lands on his feet once the TK lets loose of it's invisble, telekinet-y grasp. He lets the monkey flee. "Heh. Bet the mad scientists won't like me playing with their toys." [And the little dead collared monkeys stay down.] ( Because mad scientists and necromancers never work together. ) * Ren spins his pistol on his finger, then tucks it away, and looks over the room. [Now that things are calm he gets a feel for the books. There's various stories aimed at the relatively adventurous teenage girl set. Odd mix of levels though, and some non-fiction again that don't seemed age at any particular age level.] [They range from something that could be read carefully by a rather smart high school student, to early middle school material.] [Some things on military and civilian aircraft, history of flight. Book of Greek myths. Art collection of winged humans. And some JK Rowlings and Terry Pratchett.] [And there's a CD collection and a bible on the desk.] * Ren eyes snap to the CD's and bible. He quickly looks through them, and opens up the bible and flips to the first page. [CDs: Good mix, but fairly standard stuff, some pop, some classical, the Wagner one is currently out of the case..] [And, on the first page of the bible there's a dedication that says: "For my favorite sparring partner from the gray man. -Prescott Endris 'D.E.M.'"] * Ren frowns. * Ren rips out the first page, folds it up, and sticks it inside the signed novel from before. He slowly turns around in a circle, eyes roving intently over everything they pass. [The desk has a few drawers.] * Ren checks those! [The desk contains doodles, variations on angels, some looking fairly scary. Couple flaming swords and scythes, mostly concentrates on wings though.] [That's all that's there.] * Ren looks at them silently for a moment. "... Magnie might want these back. ... it'd help her memory, but should her memory be jogged...?" * Ren shakes his head, and closes the drawers, leaving the drawings. "Let her be where she is. She'll be happier." * Ren pulls out the datapad again, and taps the screen. "One place left." * Ren chuckles softly, and heads to the medlab. [The next door actually is a door, rather than a security shutter. The doorway is clear, but there are rubble piles to both the left and the right of it. Based on the damage to the floor it looks like the rubble had been previously barricading the doorway. Based on the arrangement of the piles it appears they were cleared by conventional means.] [There's a poster, a diploma in a frame, and a few pieces of medical paraphenalia lying on the right pile.] * Ren picks up the diploma, checking the name and place and degree on it. [Give me a demolitions check, -4.] (Actually, no bonus) (but awareness helps.) [As Ren reaches for the diploma he notices that his is a fairly odd piling of stuff and remembers his hold demolitions training. Namely that appealing stuff makes a great cover for mines.] (actually true. This was covered in a ICRC manual) (You aren't supposed to pick up anything that's lying around ina conflict area. Even if it looks cool.) (Rpg characters would be so screwed. ;P) * Ren pauses, and slowly pulls his hand back. He settles for looking. (RPG chaarcters are immune to damage on the world map, though. They can only be hurt in a Plot Point or a battle.) (The diploma face-up?) [Yes, the diploma is for oe Nathon Landos and its from Oxford. Doctorate in research medicine. Genetics specifically.] /me clucks his tongue. "Tsk, tsk, tsk." And then turns his light on the other pile again. [Other pile has nothing remarkable. Just debris.] * Ren then looks over the door/doorway. [The doorway is presently unblocked and there's a trashed then cleaned medical lab on the far side.] [Give me an awareness roll. +4 penalty.] [Ren notes nothing else from what he can see from outside the doorway.] * Ren , just to me on the safe side, bypasses the doorframe with a short teleport. [Clever Ren! When he's inside he notices that there's a laser trigger for the mine outside. It's at a height of four feet above the floor.] [This room has the whirlwind effect, but it looks far less thorough. There’s a lot of gaps where it appears that advanced medical equipment and computer equipment has been removed. There are cabinets along the walls, a few beds (some with straps). These facilities are only lightly damaged, but apparently weren’t valuable enough to remove.] [There's also a dispenser of monkey chow and water in a corner. That is fairly new looking and undamaged. There's also monkey droppings and an unplesant smell that accompanies it.] * Ren sticks his tongue out at the laser trigger. "Mya... too obvious." [The laser trigger detonates out of spite! No, not really.] * Ren then turns his attention to the rest of the room. He adopts a momentary quizzical expression at the monkey feed. And then he slaps himself in the forehead. "Get serious!" * Ren shakes his head, and then turns a more careful eye to the room, looking for anything useful or informative that might have survived. [There's a side office, but the place looks pretty ravaged.] * Ren starts opening the cabinets, searching them. [The cabinets have apparently already been searched and had all valuables removed. However there are some empty vials marked tranqualizer that remains. There's also restraits, needs, a labelled rack with a wide mix of mind affecting drugs (all removed), and a few more primitive versions of the collars you saw earlier in the security room.] ( needs? ) (Err... I have no idea. THat word should not be there.) * Ren looks disdainfully at the side office, but goes to check it out anyways. [The computer monitor on the office is broken, and the rest of the computer was removed and a few empty picture frames scattered around the floor.] [Otherwise there's a panel partially covering a crawlspace. There's a slight chittering sound from the crawlspace where apparently a monkey is hiding.] ... someone else has been here to feed them. * Ren lets the monkey be. It's been scared enough. He looks over the monkey feeders for a moment. [The feeder looks like it could be used by the monkeys. Probably timed to only release food on a scheduled basis. It looks like it has enough stock to only need to be replenished every few months.] * Ren hmms, and finds a wall to lean against. "Well. Unless that passage back in the supply room leads somewhere huge, I think I'm done here. Those three busted out of here, laying waste. Whoever was in charge stripped what survived, and left a few traps. And the monkeys." [That would be consistent with the facts.] * Ren drums his fingers, looking up. "This place is a foci for that tune. This place is also a genetics lab. ... I've found a few clues. 3 names, and the rose." * Ren arubtly stands up, shoving himself off the wall. "What'd'ya think, Cheshire? Time to check out the building aboveground?" He nods to himself. Then let's go. * Ren starts a' walkin', walkin' right on out of there. Bypassing the laser, of course. [And Ren gets back out of the facility and to the pit without any trouble.] * Ren looks Up, and listens for the guards. [The guards are still at work.] [The count seems the same though.] * Ren does the listening thing some more, until he can place them. And then waits for the right moment to leap out. [Awareness roll on that. It's a little harder from here because you can't see them.] [Okay, then you'll have to give me a stealth and a body roll when you jump out.] * Ren shrugs half-heartedly. "Well, the critical part is over." And then *jumps*. * Ren shoots out, up, up, and higher still, until he's out of the pit. His landing is so light it seems like he's floating to the ground- he lands on one foot, the other still held up. * Ren then immediately orients himself, and teleports into the building. [Ren's landing is ill-timed, but sufficiently lithe that he avoids attackig notice.] [Give me a luck roll against soul. -4.] [The inside guard is on a different floor for now.] * Ren closes his eyes, and tries to place the guards again. [Ren has a good feel for where they are.] * Ren opens his eyes, and starts walking quietly around the first floor, staying out of their range, and keeping his eyes open and peeking in all the rooms, bypassing the doors with short teleports. (Architecture roll. -4 fortifications doesn't help.) [This seems to be a fairly conventional office building. No signs of science labs or the like.] [Not in use yet obviously, but fairly obvious from the layout of the place.] * Ren searches it anyways. They might have supercomputer skeletons in their closets. [The office building doesn't seem to be holding anything aside from standard equipment being used to construct it.[ Didn't take them for that stupid... *shrug* Time to report back. * Ren keeps an ear out for the guards, and makes his way off the premises. [Ren manages to evade them easily enough on the way out.] [And he makes his way to the church Peter is presently based out of. A aid goes to knock on the door to the office he's using.] [It's now fairly late at night.] * Ren licks his hand, in a curiously cat-like manner, and tries to slick his hair back, also in a cat-like manner. The hair wins. ( Oh, no Cheshire now. ) * Peter steps out after a few moments. His clothes are a tad disheveled and he yawns and covers his mouth.] [Ren's getting some rather odd looks from the staff, but only really from the night shift. The remnents of the day shift are too tired to be payig attention.] * Ren grins rogueishly at Peter. "Well, I got in, got out, and got here." Aside from a lovely firsthand tour of a sealed off, abandoned, trashed, ransacked, and picked cleaned underground secret genetics lab, I also got a few choice bits of information. * Peter looks interested. "Interesting." He glances at his staff. "Perhaps you should come in." * Ren steps in. * Peter sits on a couch in his office which is currently covered in a quilt. "Genetics lab? That sounds worrisome." * Ren nods. "I'm worried too, but not for the same reasons you are. I know what came out of it- a little family, if understandably unwilling to easily trust people. It's the fact that the spots a foci that bugs me. Anyways. They had the place sealed off. I got in, looked around. The results of the place had tore out of there like a bat out of hell- a really pissed off one- and then someone came through and took anything that might be traceable or salvagable that survived them. I didn't find much except a map of the place, a few personal items of the little family that escaped from there, and three names. * Peter nods. "The loss of one facility would hardly bring down a large company. They probably came back to clean up after their mistakes." * Ren ticks them off one by one with his fingers. "Roger. Just a first name, that's all for that. Second is Prescott Endris 'D.E.M.' Also known as the grey man, if I recall correctly. And thirdly, Nathan Landos, Oxford graduate in genetics reserach medicine." * Peter looks up at the second name. "D.E.M.?" He seems rather surprised and a bit troubled. There were some monkeys who had the same telekinetic abilites cultivated in them. And like all tekes, they decided I should get to know the cieling better. There were three... now there's one. Someone is taking care of them, at least minimally. They also left a couple of well-placed explosives. * Peter nods but he doesn't quite seem as if he's paying attention at the moment. * Ren turns on the datapad, pulls up the map, and slides it over to Peter. "There's the map of the place." * Peter looks over the map. "Seems like it was dedicated to just a small number of subjects." There wasn't much in the building up top. *he closes his eyes, and takes a breath* Yeah. Three. * Ren pauses for a moment. "Manic, Maelstrom, and Magnie. Who have their own lives now, so keep that information to yourself." * Peter nods. "Understood. So.. the previous foci were training facilities or extraplanar battlegrouds. Does this meet one of those categories?" * Ren nods. "Training ground, specalized for those three. Tactics to use their teke abilites to take out a police station, for one." * Peter nods. "Well, the first and the third names don't mean anything to me I'm afraid." * Ren closes his eyes, and leans his head back. "What about the second?" I've got a feeling that's the important one. 'For my favorite sparring partner from the gray man. Prescott Endris, D. E. M.' The Endris's are a family kown for their hunters. ::He frowns more at the exact caption:: And from the context, I'd say that acronym is short for Deus Ex Machina. * Ren snorts. "It was the first page of a bible I found there intact." * Peter nods. "And, it would appear that my best hunter has been getting training in unusual plaes." * Ren frowns, and drums his fingers against his hip. "Mak?" * Ren blinks, and realizes he's not leaning against anything. So he gravitates to a wall, and leans against that. Yes. Mak's not his actual name. Just an abbreviation of his somewhat pretentious moniker. * Ren grins a little. "Can't blame ya'. I'm a fan of them there three letter names myself." * Peter chuckles. "Well, I'll have a talk with Mak. But the girl who was giving this bible, do you think she sparred voluntarily?" * Ren hmms. "I think she might have. Can't say for certain, though." * Peter nods. "I'll have a talk with my perhaps prodigal hunter." He frowns and closes his eyes and thinks for a moment. * Ren nods. "Any luck with that ammo for Edge?" * Peter nods. "I'm told it will be ready in the morning." He then looks to Ren. "Perhaps you should raise this matter with SAB. They're resources are better suited to unveiling corporate crime than ours are." * Ren closes his eyes for a moment, thinking. "If I do that, mind compiling the information you got too? I have the details, but not the larger picture or the context of it as well." I already sent them a blood sample from the teke monkeys. I will, but it will take a few days. Give me a call when the investigation begins. * Ren nods. "A'right." * Peter stands. "And I'm afraid I should be getting to sleep. Thank you for all you've done already. I'll be there for your fight." * Ren grins widely. "Sounds like a good idea. I could use some myself." * Ren shoves himself off the wall, then nods at Peter. "Seeya." And walks out. * Peter waves. "Godspeed." [And end for now.]
