[Ben the doctor and Mai head in.] [The tent appears to have once been a fairly conventional field medical facility, that's no longer the case.] [There's about two dozen soldiers and medical personnel currently being tended to by a half dozen medical personnel.] 'So, I'm interested in all you can tell me about this virus. How did it first emerge?' 'Do these people have it?' [It seems as if they're fairly understaffed.] [In the other half of the tent there's a lot of cots and about fifty bodies, some wolves, a small numbers half-human half wolves, some humans. The vast majority are apparently dead. There are a handful of still living subjects, with only one still living in wolf form. There are no surviving half-man, half- wolves] [The half men, half wolves seem to be rather burly and hairy humanoids, they look rather strong, although the form seems rather awkward and half-finished. There are spots of fur and spots of bare skins, they don’t make a remotely attractive sight. They do have claws, and although they seem ill-formed] [The wolves themselves appear to be natural quadrupeds, but are about halfway in size between a wolf and a brown bear. Coloration is variable, but primarily black fur. They have several inch claws and teeth quite suitable for tearing into flesh and holding on. From their musculature, you’d think they have strength closer to that of a bear.] 'F***.' 'What killed those?' * Mai gasps slightly after entering then calms down and relays a message from the doctor. "No, there were only a few left with the disease at the time of the attack, none of them survived the onslaught." A different plague, I think he means chemical weapon, it's a bit idiomatic. Apparently it killed the vast majority on contact, and although the survivors we cleaned off are largely fine. Those living ones are the exception. The rest... ::Mai and the doctor chat briefly and quickly:: Apparently the rest have been secured by the buildings, manacled and the chains have been spiked into a wall. They're currently in human form. Oh. Okay. So, the wolves were sanitized by a chemical weapon after the lycan outbreak. Not by the original virus. Then my idea is still in the running. He doesn't seem pleased with the weapon at all. Huh. One of these lycans is still alive and in wolf form, even though the sun is up... I thought these were strictly lunar lycans, doctor. They seem to be too weak to change back to human form. I take it the full wolf form is their normal one, then, and these others were stuck in mid-transformation? They don't normally have a wolf-human hybrid form? Yes, the transformation wasn’t always fast, and some were killed before the transformation was complete or apparently died because their bodies couldn’t handle the stress of changing back. * Ben walks over to a dead werewolf. He takes a long look at it first, making sure it's dead. 'Have you studied these lycans much, doctor?' * Angel enters the tent. Okay, that's a new one. What is all this? I thought there was no silver in use yet... * Doctor shakes his head and seems a bit agitated as he speaks. No, apparently they've sent back samples for labwork, but didn't want to risk putting additional personnel on the island until the moon starts waning. 'Apparently, some sort of chemical weapon was deployed against the hostiles. It worked.' * Mai checks something by the doctor. "Apparently humans weren't harmed. There were some survivors, who are now in chains until the moon wanes." And the chemical was...? 'My questions are not being met with a lot of answers.' * Mai checks with the doctor. "He doesn't know." She walks over and looks over the werewolves and closes her eyes for a moment. [Oh, the living werewolves are manacled. That's clear when you get closer.] 'Super. Just f***ing super. We have an effective weapon, and we don't know what the f*** it is! * Ben wanders away from the wolf, walking back to Angel. * Mai opens her eyes again with a new book in her hand, she looks at the corpses and then takes it over to the doctor. Ben, I'm not sure it really matters what the weapon is. We're not going to be here long enough to fight. It will be important when we find the tourist, maybe, but today, we need to find out if it'll spread. 'How do you figure? Isn't that what we're here for? To gather information in case of another outbreak?' * Doctor continues speaking in an agitated tone, Mai translates simultaneously. "He's very angry about it, thinks there shuold have been a much lower fatality rate." She shows him the book. 'If these Lycans go all Indonesian Werewolf In London, the SAB should know what neutralizes them.' 'Wait. This chemical weapon you won't specify was more effective than expected?' [Oh, Angel and Ben. Give me a +4 medical (diagnosis roll) HA helps] (Made). (made) * Doctor and Mai confer briefly. "He didn't expect it to be used... But, if this book is right, looks like monk's hood also known as wolf's bane was the active part of that weapon." Well, we've got plenty of that. Saldin brought a bunch. * Doctor waves off Mai in frustration and goes back to work on a patient. * Mai frowns. "Well, I think that can go without exact translation. But he wants us out." 'I got it.' 'Well, this chemical weapon is an interesting development. Glad I took a look in here.' Yeah. Teamwork at its best. 'And,' Ben adds, shooting Mai a look, 'I do wish SAB intel could include details like that.' Let's start on the locals to find out about tourists. 'Wait. I have one question. What, exactly, is the Indonesian government planning to do with all these werewolves?' * Mai looks back. "We can't tell you what the Indonesians didn't tell us." 'Right.' * Ben leaves the tent. As long as they stay on this island until they die, the Indonesians can do anything they like with the howlers. * Mai confers with the doctor, who responds with a quick angry phrase. "They claim that cloaked woman is working on a suppression treatment, but he thinks they'll be killed once they're taken away from witnesses." * Mai then heads out. * Angel pushes back the flap and exits as well.
