[Note: Ben is not responding to Tim’s messages, both of Ben’s messages were left before Tim wrote even his first response.] Email #1 from Tim to Ben Hey Asinine Old Man, Just a few things to add to your report. #1 Pissing off the locals is counter productive. #2 As far as the doctors on the island can tell, we aren’t infected, but the test isn't perfect. #3 I think you're wrong about it being airborne, if it was there shouldn't be anybody left uninfected after a month. #4 The tourist arrived about a month ago, and she knew about her curse. Said it could only be transferred by "becoming intimate" or "sharing of blood ritual" - given the source this is probably a blood transfusion. Local power that is kept her from transforming for two days, but on the third night let it go, several of the local men tried to hold her down and got scratched or bitten in the process. Tourist escaped into the woods and the men started to transform, but didn't finish by the time the moon set. The next night they were doing the biting and scratching. #5 Said power goes by the name Grandmother and lives in the ruins with two small children. She has put a dozen or so of the wolves to into what looks like an enchanted sleep. Wish I wasn't here, Tim P.S. #6 The universe has apparently decided that Saldin, Mia, and I need to be in the middle of the Sahara. Phone message #1 from Ben to Tim: ‘Hey, kid, it's Ben. Listen, still no solid word on the contagion issue, though at least there's no confirmation of the worst case scenario yet. But something else's come up. It seems our mystery woman is a Sally Jennings, and there's no record of her leaving the country. So she could still be on that island.’ 'In fact, now that I think of it...' Ben continues musing, while on the phone, 'Assume for a second that I'm wrong about it having changed it's contagion pattern.' 'The lycans can't be spreading it through biting, and if it's not spreading itself through expanded infection... Then the only other possibility is that someone is spreading it deliberately. The lycans can't be spreading it through biting, and if it's not spreading itself through expanded infection... Then the only other possibility is that someone is spreading it deliberately.' Email #2 from Tim to Ben There seems to be some delay out here, hope this and the last message reach you in time to be of some use. #7 Somebody deliberately spreading the bacteria makes as much sense as anything else. From the World's Biggest Sandbox, Tim Phone message #2 from Ben to Tim: 'Hey, kid, it's Ben. Listen, first off, I was right about the expanded contagion vectors, but fortunately not to the full worst case scenario. It's not airborne, but it can be spread by consumption, exchange of fluids, and touch. So keep those gloves on, don't eat anything, and resist the urge to f*** any cute locals.' ‘Also, bad news abounds, because the woman at the heart of this seems to have had her credit cards stolen. She went to the island you're on, but the ferry she took is still there, so she probably is too. That likely means it's where the theft occurred.' 'The cards have just shown up back in Jolly Ole England, so whoever took them from her got off the island somehow, but we don't know how.' 'So see what's up with the ferry, try to talk to anyone connected to it like the captain. Also, see if you can find out about the theft, and maybe even find the woman.' 'She said she was going to check out the ruins, so that's a good place to look, but as I recall you'd already headed over there.' 'Oh, by the way kid, the principal tactical advantage of disarming someone by teleporting individual bullets is that it conceals what you're doing. That means you can hide your presence, your abilities, or just the fact that you're using them. It also keeps the target under a false sense of security, since they think they're still armed. When none of those concerns apply, it's smarter to grab the entire gun. It's faster, and doing it one bullet * Tim snorts, "A little too late old man. A little late." Email #3 from Tim to Ben Dear Undoubtedly Cranky Old Man, I could have used the warning about touch a few hours ago, but such is life. And just in case you're wondering, no I didn't have anything to do with the credit cards. I'd love to talk to the ferry pilot about the comings and goings, buuut, he's a bit out of my reach at the moment. If there was anything else your message cut off in the middle. So, should I start investing in shirts with targets printed on them for you? -Tim
