[Date: September 3, 2020. Time: 1930 GMT.] [Location: Staging area new Plymouth.] [Currently there are about a dozen transport helicopters located in the field being used for a staging area.] [Some have already left to fly men and supplies to different parts of the region, but it's fairly quiet now.] [There are a fair number of police and military forces around, there has been a steady steam of them getting some sort of innoculation before they head off.] [They've also been picking up equipment, lots of riot shields and riot armour armour around, and IR googles.] (new Plymouth->near Plymouth) [Dame Eckerd (SAB commander for you newbies), heads over to your group, she's flanked on one side by a fairly hulking wolf.] [She had been talking to the apparent commander of the police forces. [I should also mention, helicopters aren't the only vehicles around, there are a fair number of Armoured Personnel Carriers (APCs).] [Start] * Red recognizes the hulking wolf and waves to him cheerfully. [Weather: brisk a little windy, some clouds. Sun went down an hour ago.] * Wolf nods back to Red. Oh, and he is wearing a transmitter around his neck. * Marguerite is standing around, smoking two cigarettes and still wearing her sunglasses even though it's dark out. Her braid whips a little in the wind. * Kurt ambles up and waves at Dame Eckerd. "Heya. Reportin' for duty and all that." * Arktos bows almost imperceptibly to Dame Eckerd, hand on his sword. * Roy shifts out of nearby shadows as the obvious Person With Authority approaches. * Kurt waves happily to Red and Maggie. "Heya, gals. Where ya been?" * Eckerd nods back. "Unless you have any questions from the briefing, I'll get into the plan of operation immediately." * Marguerite grins. "Drinking." Then she turns to pay attention to Eckerd. * Kurt is distracted by the girls and misses the request for questions. * Kahlya comes walking forward in grunger jeans and a white tea shirt that has the words "Evil Dead" on it. She has a long bit of something wrapped in a cloth that she's carrying behind her at about waist height. She's wearing gold loop earrings this time as she looks over everyone in turn. * Red nods to Dame Edward, as well. Then smirks at Kurt. "Bivouac, of course. Did you come here because of the women?" Oh, hey, sprout. You were almost late. Oh, I came because there's fighting going on. I mean, they're rabid dogs and all, but they're BIG rabid dogs. * Eckerd waits a minute as you talk amongst yourselves. * Kahlya looks over at Kurt and pouts a little before regaining her composure. "I had to get changed." * Roy is simply standing there being quiet and mysterious. Wearing a plain black t-shirt, black jeans, black shoes, sunglasses, do I see a trend? * Red waves to Kahlya as she comes up. "Is that all then, Kurt? You're not here to flirt?" Hey, flirting can happen in between beating things up. The right activity at the right time, ya? * Grysar sets mode: +v Red Hmmmm... Yes? * Kahlya looks a little surprised at Red and waves timidly back. * Kahlya then notices Roy. "Oh, it's the bacon man isn't it?" * Roy turns his head slightly towards Kahlya, then back to Eckerd. * Arktos crosses his arms and remains silent. Hey, I need to brush up on my ancient legends. THere anything but silver that can kill these things? No silver, Mister Petros? If my experience is any guide, silver just makes it easier. Nope. Do you have any idea how much a good silver knife costs? Um...nothing? What was I gonna do, raid the boss's silverware drawer? * Eckerd coughs before speaking. "Yes, wolfsbane, also refered to ask monkshood can do the job. It is also possible to simply damage most variants enough so that they can not regenerate." * Red nods again to the hulking wolf, seeming somewhat apologetic as she does so. * Wolf almost seems to smile slightly. * Kahlya shrugs and snaps her fingers. In the air appears two small silver knives. She flicks one to her other hand and holds it gingerly by the tip of the blade, hilt out to Kurt. * Kurt shrugs. "Thanks, but no. I'll grill 'em, you kill 'em." Assuming, of course, that we're allowed to kill them. However, your mission is not extermination. You're mission is to go in there is to save the lives of as many British citizens as possible. * Eckerd glances at Marguerite as she says that. * Marguerite slips the clip out of her DE, which is suddenly in her hand, then slams a clip of silvery glinting bullets home.... then frowns. She refrains from saying what her face looks like she wants to, though. Hmm...now you're just making it tricky. That is an important question. What are we supposed to do with the weres that attack us? Rules of engagement are as follows. You are allowed to initiate attacks against Lycan targets, aside from Victor of course. * Red listens. * Kahlya gives up and slides the daggers into the belt of her jeans. You are not to use lethal force unless absolutely necessary, however, the threshhold for lethal force is much higher with werewolves. * Kahlya taps her cheek. "Define "absolutely necessary." To prevent the death of a teammate or civilian, when no other option is available. * Kahlya sighs a little. "Okay." She gives Kurt a little smile. "Guess you're not getting a demonstration this time then." * Kurt shrugs. "No biggie." Use of silver or wolfsbane is allowed, and may be tactically wise. Do not take head or heart shots with it however, and use on a wounded wolf may be fatal. * Marguerite rolls her eyes. I'll be defaulting to tranq rounds, just so you guys know. I'll have some normal rounds on hand for emergencies, and some silver rounds for *real* emergencies. I'll use lead or silver on request, also. There will be a parameter of guards around the target, whenever we find it, try to avoid allowing any to escape, but an escaping lycan does not require use of lethal force, just be sure to report it. I've got silver for as long as it lasts. * Eckerd looks at Marguerite. "Ms. Mclochlane, just to be certain, if you have any trouble with the rules, feel free to say so and sit this one out, if you go I'll expect you to follow the letter and spirit of them." * Kahlya sighs and stretches her back a little, keeping her blanket-wrap behind her. "So boring...but okay." * Marguerite smirks. "Leg shots, sir. I'll avoid the plasma till my ass is on the line." * Eckerd nods. The reason you're going in is twofold. One, to stop the spread as quickly as possible and to minimize the burden on the parameter forces. Two, by acting quickly we believe this version of lycanthropy can be cured. Victor please explain. [Eckerd calls over a police man and he and she open up a nearby crate.] * Red raises both eyebrows at this. "Cured?" * Kahlya turns her attention to the policeman. She takes her cloth-wrap and thunks it on the ground. * Roy turns to watch as well. * Arktos turns his head slightly. * Victor, the wolf, paces in front of you. "Verevolves are highly regenerative, so it vill be difficult to keep zem down, hovever ve have a formula zat should vork for hours if administered directly into a volf. * Marguerite lights up another cigarette. [Eckerd and the policeman start taking out a fair number of fancy looking metal fluid containers and fairly hightech looking needle delivery systems.] Work to cure them? So we can pound them unconscious, hit 'em with that stuff, then call in the crews while we go find another? Ze tranqualizer is mixed with a serum zat has vorked in ze past, but only if given vithin a few days, before ze second transformation ideally. No remote system? Needle bullets? Spider injectors? Blowguns, for christ's sake? Maybe they're throwable. Not enough. I'd use them in tranq rounds, but it'd take several shots to give them enough. But, if I put a wolf down for a nap, you can give them some of this while they're not in a position to object. * Victor shakes his canine head. "Zere needs to be delivery of a large quantity of serum and tranq to be effective, delivered directly into the volves system. She is quite correct about zis." No problem, then. Mind if I load up now? * Kurt starts unsnapping various small pouches on his vest and shorts. So scratching them wouldn't work...darn, this is just getting so complicated. * Roy walks forward to pick up a few, wishing he had more pockets for them. It's a rescue. Rescue is ALWAYS hard. Why do you think so few people do it? And as I said, zey need to be mostly down before you deliver ze serum, or if zey are up, you need to deliver it directly into zere heart. * Marguerite frowns slightly. "Don't like playin' catchup like this." But she loads up a lot of pockets full of the things anyhow. Oh that. That might be easy enough. * Kahlya holds her hands out for a few herself. * Roy looks around. "Could I have a small satchel to carry these in?" Get all you can carry. Maggie might be able to carry some for everyone's use, too. * Marguerite nods, and opens her satchel and starts shoveling them in. [Everyone can take an extra few delivery needles, and there's a couple mini tanks per person.] * Red doesn't take any, herself. [You can get multiple needle refills per from each tank.] * The policeman gives a satchel to Roy. Here I thought we were just going to take down werewolves. I guess you can't win 'em all. * Kurt stocks his pockets with more than a few delivery needles and shoulders a couple tanks. "These tanks can take being dropped a time or four, ya?" * Arktos places needles and a pair of tanks in his sash. * Red thinks again and takes two, just in case. * Victor nods. "Zey are designed for field use." Excellent. * Eckerd comes back. "We also have an formula which will grant temporary immunity to lycanthropy, or prevent it if taken within a minute of infection. But..." * Roy gets a little military backpack that he loads with two spare injectors and some tanks, and he carries another injector. It has fairly serious side effects. We'll give each of you a few, but expect serious performance degredation if you take it. * Kahlya takes hers and holds out her hands. Smoke forms just below it and condenses to form a small backpack. She slides the injectors in and slings the cute little thing over her shoulder. A question, madam. * Eckerd looks over to Arktos. "Yes?" Are these lycanthropes capable of regenerating limbs? [Time: 1945. Full moon is up.] * Eckerd looks over to Victor. * Kahlya looks up at the moon. "I think this is the first time I saw the moon like this. It's pretty neat." Zat depends on the strain. Most can, but it is hard to be sure. I see. Would cauterizing the wound prevent this? ... Can we get on with it, maybe? * Red looks up at the moon, then turns to Dame Edward. "Perhaps I should go get into position, chief?" If you witness a limb regenerated, then feel free to use such attacks. If you do not witness such be cautious, but if necessary it is certainly preferable to killing. * Kahlya smirks and whips out the ribbon on the cloth, barring her scythe to the cold elements. "It's showtime." * Roy wonders why everyone is pulling out weapons. * Arktos nods and tightens his grip on the sword's handle. Tch. Zese are not hydras, cauterizing will not make the difference. Let's go. Red, Maggie, you ready? * Red sniggers at Kahlya's response. * Marguerite flips out the DE. "Ten minutes ago, swordboy." Hey, what about me? We're still waiting on reports of her location, I'd have sent you already if we had reports by now. Yes, I am, but I'm not going on the ground with the rest of you. You have communications on SAB channel in case you want to direct the artillery support, yes? * Eckerd nods. "We have headsets for anyone that needs them. Armour is also available, as are IR googles." * Kurt nods. "I could use a headset. Communications are important." * Roy nods. "IR goggles?" What'sa IR? Red will be providing support in a helicopter, some distance up, apparently one was downed in Indonesia, so we're being cautious in terms of air support. Infrared. Or near infrared, more likely. Low light vision gear. Oh. * Kahlya blinks and looks at Kurt. "But I can see just fine." * Marguerite snags a headset and adjusts it. She finally takes off the sunglasses and stores them, then slips the goggles on her head. * Arktos takes a headset, despite not having ears. Yeah, but not everybody is a highly trained killing machine. * Victor nods. "Not so good for seeing cold objects, very good for seeing ze varm objects." Their loss. Take care, Red. Gotta have the postop drink. * Kahlya pouts and looks sheepish, swaying from side to side. "Is that really what you think of me, Mister Petros?" Beer's on me if we all survive. Hey, you're the one who brags about her amazing and unbeatable super attack. Woo. Beer! Once we have a location, we'll have an Armoured Personnel Carrier take you. Is one of you capable of driving one? You fall, Kurt 'n me'll catch you. * Red nods. "Will do, Maggie. And you be careful offering free drinks in earshot of Marguerite, Kurt." She grins. No beer for you, kid. You get Shirley Temples. * Kahlya smiles cutely. "You're o--" She grumbles and gives Kurt a cold look. "Watch it." I can. Good luck, all of you. Although you likely don't need it. * Red winks. * Red heads for a helicoptor. o/` Pretty damn well, too. Managed to make it in a race across a salt flat. * Roy nods at Red as she leaves. * Eckerd nods. "Victor vill go with you in support, I recommend you keep him in reserve." Well, fine. You can have beer, I suppose. This isn't germany, but hey. [Time 2000 GMT] * Kahlya smiles again. "I take back all the nasty things I said about you behind your back, Mister Petros!" * Marguerite eyes the wolf. "As long as he can hold his own." Somehow, I don't think that'll be a problem, Maggie. ~He can, trust me. He can take a rifle shot as well as you can Maggie.~ * Kahlya slips on the radio sets and turns the volume down way low. ~Good. I just have a bad track record with non-combat hangers on, if you know what I mean.~ * Roy picks up a radio, adjusts the volume down to his hearing threshold. * Kahlya snickers. "Don't like babysitting?" The babies tend to end up with new places to breathe. Well, don't treat me like a child and we'll get along just fine. * Marguerite tosses the cigarette down and grinds it out. "As long as you keep the hell out of my way." * Kahlya sets the blunt-end of her scythe in the ground and looks to the side. "But I wish they'd get on with it." ~Heh. Don't worry about Victor. He's as tough as wolves come, and he's got you guys with him. I mean, seriously, the resistance won't stand a chance. *chuckles*~ * Roy checks their ATV over, and decides on a rooftop perch where he can hang on easily. One last thing, once we find the target, we can carpet bomb the area with a heavy scent. Won't smell good, but it'll take the wolves noses out of commission. Of course, that means you won't be able to depend on Victor's nose nor Mr. Wilson's if we can bring him in to support you in time. * Marguerite slides into the APC driver's seat. And lights up another cigarette! * Roy nods and gets on board. * Eckerd walks over by the APC. "Would you like us to use it?" Nah. "It would help...but not yet." * Kahlya looks over each person critically in turn before entering in. "Easier to have the wolves come to us." * Arktos walks over to the APC but doesn't get inside. * Kurt hops into the APC's shotgun seat. * Eckerd walks away. ~You can call it in later if need be. And feel free to get yourself acquanted with the vehicle, we still don't have reports in.~ * Marguerite checks the controls. [Time passes Marguerite has time to drive around some if she wants... at 2014 you get a report.] * Marguerite did drive!@ * Arktos has been waiting with inhuman patience. ~We have a location, close enough that it wouldn't make sense to fly you to a closer APC. I'll put it on your machine's system.~ * Kurt props the shotgun door open with his right leg. "Let's go, then." [A nice map along with recommend route and terrain features show up on the monitor.] * Roy is already on the top hatch, though you'd have to take his word as he's invisible at the moment. * Kahlya leans on the back of Kurt's seat, stiffling a yawn. Her scythe is propped up against the side of the vehicle. Buckle up. * Kurt buckles up, as a personal favor to Maggie. * Marguerite slams the vehicle into gear and floors it! * Arktos shrugs and starts running. * Kahlya plops in the seat and doesn't buckle. Silly her. [There's some transit time, talk amongst yourselves while I fill Red in...] * Marguerite is not a very sane driver. If you've ever played the game Crazy Taxi it's a lot like that. * Arktos spends a lot of time making sure he doesn't get run over by the APC, but keeps pace and then some. * Kurt takes hold of the grab-straps. "Damn, woman, you drive like crazy." * Marguerite speaks around a cigarette clenched in her teeth. "So, Kurt. We're going to focus on limbs, right?" [Anyone not wearing a seatbelt, give me a body check.] * Arktos raps on the driver's window. * Marguerite rolls it down. "What?" Drive in a straight line. Please. [Kahlya is thrown from her seat at a sudden turn.] ~How's the drive, boys and girls?~ [Roy also is thrown from his position, but manages to keep a secure grip.] Straight lines are for squares. [Requires a moderately skilled turn from him, but he does keep a hold.] * Arktos shrugs and seems to blur upwards. * Kahlya lets out a short mini-shriek as she bounces up but sticks in the air, looking over at Maggie. "Well that was unexpected." ~Drive's fine, Red. Oughta put in an interstate here, though.~ Told ya ta buckle up. I've never been so glad I did. This is the technique what won me the 50 mile tournament race down in Arizona. * Kahlya comes up behind Maggie's seat and peeks out the front. "It's a lot of fun, really. I think I could get used to this." * Marguerite takes a sharp left! But slows down until the apex of the curve, which is when she floors it again. * Arktos keeps about fifty feet above the APC, and a bit ahead. [The road comes closer to the English Channel, you can see it in the distance, for now, assuming Marguerite doesn't drive into it on a lark.] * Kahlya thinks to hold on better this time and then points up at Arktos. "Wow, that guy's pretty fast." [You're a good 20 meters above sea level at least though, so at least you'll have a leaisurely fall.] * Marguerite manages to not drive into it. She gets close though, laughing like mad when she does. * Roy shakes his invisible head. You mind staying a ways away from that thing? * Marguerite steers with her knees while lighting another cigarette. "Don't like seaside vistas, Kurt?" They don't like me. * Kurt looks up. "Hope it doesn't rain." Don't jinx it. IR works like piss in rain. [Road makes another moderately fast turn. Roy, give me another roll - acrobatics (balance). (I'm assuming Maggie is continuing not to take any measures on his account.] * Arktos skims over the Channel briefly, before taking his position above the APC again. I can't help but jinx it just by being here, Maggie. * Marguerite veers away from the channel. And she is, kind of. I'll keep an eye out for you. You're lookin' at a guy who spends most of his time being soaking wet, here. ~I'll shoot any clouds that threaten rain, Kurt. I'm sure that'll change their minds. Honestly.~ * Kahlya just smiles at Kurt. "Would snow be better?" * Kurt shrugs. [Roy manages to stay on, and it isn't so close this time, maybe he's getting good at this.] Water's water, really. Come on.... where the fuck is this place? [Time: 2030. ETA 2035] * Arktos suddenly puts on the speed, moving ahead of the APC. ~We're at the site, perimeter is apparently moving in without much trouble, although the APCs to back them up won't be here til 2040~ ~We're incoming, ETA 2035.~ ~Roger that, Mags. I've spotted some puppies, I'll serve some naps when you're getting close.~ [Maggie for the record, does know her stuff, you're getting there faster cause she's got actually making time with those tight turns.] Shiiit, if he kills the target, we're fucked. You want me to go after him, Maggie? ~I don't plan on killing anyone.~ ~Plans don't always factor into it.~ ~Just don't fuck up. You fuck up I claim rights to your ass with regards to kicking it.~ * Victor, for the record, has been lying down towards the back of the APC, not perturbed in the slightest by all the commoation. Aww. What part do I get? You can kick him in the balls. If he's got 'em. Kid's right, you know. ~Be professional, at least until the mission's over.~ ~..Village spotted.~ ~It'd be good to stick together on this, Arktos. I'm giving support, but if you're up against numbers it's easy to get overwhelmed, and we don't know how many weres are out here.~ ~This is fucking professional.~ [Time: 833] * Marguerite slams the pedal. "God DAMN it, why the hell is nobody fucking trained well anymore?" I don't think they have the time to train them. I mean..this is my first mission as is. Well why the fuck aren't you trained before they fucking hire you? Depends in what you're trained in. Some standard fucking group tactics, how about? That'd be too much work, Maggie. * Kahlya shrugs. "I'm not the one who ran off. Not used to working with other people." ~Arktos, you've got two wolves converging on your position, more headed your way on rooftop.~ Shit. Say the word and I'm there, Maggie. ~I see them.~ * Kurt unbuckles and gets ready to pop the door. ~Check that. Five on the ground, two on rooftop. I suggest you pull back, Arktos.~ ~Retreating.~ * Marguerite shakes her head. "We'll hit it together." Fine. * Arktos can be seen as a grey-blue blur heading for the APC. [Time: 2034, Maggie passes through a police checkpoint, they're out in force, but they're a bit away from the road as if they knew you were coming.] * Arktos skids to a halt and takes to the air, again keeping pace with the APC. ~Were I going to engage the wolves, I would have made sure to invite the rest of you.~ [Arktos meets up with you without any trouble, and we're now thirty sconds away.] ~Red, when I give the signal start firing. We'll swoop in soon after and start administering serum. Kurt, Arktos, take the ones on the rooftops.~ ~Where can I be helpful?~ No problem. Watch out for the breeze, people. ~Work with the ones on the ground with Kahlya and me.~ ~Understood.~ ~Red, can you see the target?~ * Kurt pops the door open and swings up onto the roof. [As you get closer you can see you've got a cliffside village on a few levels.] [One is at the base of the cliff and has a few boats, a wharf, and some common dock buildings.] [Mid level is at least 20 meters up, with an access road down to the docks.] ~I'm on the wolves now, Maggie. Can't see the rooftop ones, any more, tho, so be careful when you get to the village.~ [You're currently on the midlevel road, but can turn off for the access road if you like.] ~Will do.~ ~One puppy is down for a nap.~ [Mid level is at least 20 meters up, with an access road down to the docks.] [There's about five buildings, Victorian architecture, been around at least a century or two. The wear and tear does show some. There's also a road behind the buildings] [Forest beyond that level, and you also notice a rather nice looking mansion, with stone walls, about a half a kilometer up the main road.] * Arktos drops down to the roof, standing normally while moving. "Which roof would you prefer?" [You can hear a howl from beyond you. There's a pack of four, no, make that three wolves a bit down the road, they rapidly are moving into a the fourth building down on the road.] [Time: 2035] They're taking it inside. [Anyone with good nightvision can also see that there's two down werewolves in the middle of the road.] ~We have 3 wolves moving indoors.~ ~Another down. He made some noise, but the others didn't seem to pay it any mind.~ * Marguerite skids the APC into a braking pattern. ~Targets spotted, Red. Entering a building. We're on it. Arktos, Kurt, get working on the rooftops and be careful.~ ~We have two down in the road. I can inject them.~ ~Go for it, Roy.~ * Roy floats off, moving for the nearest prone lycan. Got it. What about me? Done. * Marguerite skids to a halt and hops out of the APC. "Follow me. We're going after the pack." * Arktos rockets to the left, heading for the rooftops. ~I'll watch your backs, Kurt and Arktos. Maggie, try to drag the puppies outside so I can lend a hand.~ * Kahlya smiles and snags her scythe. "Sounds like fun." * Kurt hops from the top of the rooftop up to the nearest roof, looking down as he hits the apex, trying to spot him some puppies. ~Roger.~ * Marguerite runs for the building. [Roy gets to the nearest Lycan, it's twitching a little, he manages to put it down without any trouble.] * Victor stays in the APC for now, avoid unplesant surprises, and keep as backup. ~Good news, apparently they've found Drew, he'll be reinforcing in a few.~ ~That's great news! Now if I just knew who Drew was.~ ~Roger. Engaging.~ [Let's see, Red's in the copter, Arktos is going for the rooftops of the buildings by the cliff, Roy is going to keep down the wolfies, Maggie is rushing to the building, Kurt is going for rooftops, and Kahyla is going with Maggie?] ~He's another merc, different sort of lycan.~ [There's a sound of bullet hitting wood.] ~Watch it, Red, I don't need another matching scar.~ * Marguerite is grinning. [Arktos. He's on the rooftops and sees a lycan temporarily perched on a Church roof. He can get to it and attack in one round] * Arktos rushes at the wolf with amazing speed, sword drawn. ~Kurt, Arktos, three on rooftop. One on a church I just nicked up - getting sloppy, Mags, I tell you - two on a two-story job, trying to dig through the roof.~ ~Three at once. I can handle it." [The two story job is on the right side of the street, it's the middle building and is about twice as long as the roof.] ~Of course you can, dear.~ ~Try not to kill them _all_~ ~I thought we weren't supposed to kill ANY.~ [Arktos slices at the church one and it goes down with a yelp, rolling off the roof until it lands in the gap between the church and the building the rest of the wolves went into.] [And break]
